BASIC FUNCTION:

A Radiologic Technologist (RT) provides information to diagnose patient illnesses by operating radiologic equipment to produce radiographs. In addition, provides skilled nursing services to patients under the direction of a Medical Provider and plays a vital role in the clinic. They provide a variety of related services to maintain a safe, therapeutic environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Precisely follows orders from provider on what areas of the body to image
  • Effectively communicates and prepares patients for x-rays including removal of garments or jewelry that may interfere with procedure and explaining how the process work
  • Positions patients properly to obtain x-rays
  • Takes preventative steps to avoid unnecessary exposure to radiation
  • Applies their knowledge of anatomy and physiology to the process in order to help the provider diagnose problems
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions
  • Ensures operation of radiology equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and technique
  • Greets and accesses patients
  • Prepares patients for examination and treatment 
  • Documents in EMR per clinic protocol
  • Obtains vital signs and patient history
  • Prepares exam rooms with necessary instruments
  • Performs phlebotomy and various medical tests
  • Gives injections as directed by the Provider
  • Handles calls from patients, pharmacies and other providers
  • Makes referrals as directed by the Provider
  • Provides overall support for Providers and co-workers
  • Maintains the confidentiality of the patient’s clinical records
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols
  • Follows all policies and procedures by AppleCare standards
  • Completes all tasks assigned in a timely manner
  • Maintains PAR levels 
  • Completes all tasks assigned in a timely manner

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or equivalent. Must possess a current national certification to practice as a Radiological Technologist. Must have the ability to deal tactfully with patients and family members. Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills. Must have patience, tact and a cheerful dispositions and enthusiasm. Must maintain current CPR and a valid driver’s license. Must pass a pre-employment criminal history and drug screen.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability/knowledge to performs diagnostic procedures
  • Good digital dexterity and hand-eye coordination to utilize assessment tools
  • Superior oral and written communication with co-workers, patients and their families
  • Ability to interact positively and professionally with others at all times
  • Ability to utilize on-site x-ray equipment
  • Ability to obtain Drug Screen training certification
  • Ability to operate/order out sourced labs
  • Ability to communicate with insurance companies
  • Knowledge of PAR levels
  • Knowledge of ordering procedures from DMS to medications and soft supplies when necessary
  • Knowledge and training complete of all drug screens
  • Sustains emotional stability with the ability to cope with stressful situations
  • Remains calm under pressure and handles situations tactfully
  • Respects patients and co-workers on a daily basis
  • Maintains an orderly work area and produces exceptional work
  • General knowledge of patient care
  • Basic knowledge of AAP concept.
  • Exhibits a responsible attitude and needs little supervision
  • Ability to multi-task

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Physical demand and work environment are representative of those in a medical office / clinic environment. This position requires regular standing, walking, sitting, use of hands, reaching, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. Position requires the ability to hear and frequently lift or move 30 lbs, infrequently up to 50 lbs. Manual dexterity required in the use of normal office equipment i.e., computers, copiers, fax machines, etc. This position requires moderate to intense visual concentration, reading, using a computer and reviewing patient charts. Position requires distance & peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus and see color. This position has daily contact with patients, families, medical facilities; physicians, physician office staff, vendors/suppliers and AppleCare staff requiring excellent communication and problem-solving skills and professional demeanor. This position may include some travel outside of the home clinic. This position has a risk of exposure to infectious diseases requiring standard safety precautions.
